About the FVHDA

FVHDA holds 3 indoor competitions that are for members only. They are held in November, January and April. We offer an open competition and workshop in February. We try to bring in out of town judges for several of our competitions.

Membership also entitles you to a voice and a vote at the Annual General Meeting. This is the meeting that the executive for the next season is elected. It is held at the end of the dancing season in May.

There are one or two other general meetings at which members are most welcome to give their suggestions and critiques.

Each year we work hard to promote our highland competitions and more importantly recognize the hard work and dedication of all dancers.

Prize money is offered for all Premier Groups at the three FVHDA closed competitions in November, January and April. We provide trophies for pre-premier winners, award medals, and provide ribbons for primary dancers.

The FVHDA also offers a Primary Début at our spring open competition. This début is intended to give new dancers a chance to perform on stage for the first time without the pressure of a competition. It is our opportunity to welcome new dancers and encourage them to try competitions.

The Marie Lavoie Awards is given out annually to a pre-premier and premier dancer to recognize sportsmanship / dancemanship.

In addition, we offer a small bursary to dancers attending the Interprovincial Championships as BC representatives.

It pays to be a member of our association!
